2012 Legislative Session Comes to a Close, Medicaid Cuts Avoided

With a single day left in their constitutionally dictated schedule, the Oregon Legislative Assembly adjourned its 2012 Legislative Session late this evening, March 5th. Following final weekend negotiations, legislators met Monday morning, afternoon and evening to come to an agreement on the budget and several outstanding issues.

Oregon's long term care delivery system continues to be at real risk for Medicaid funding reductions in the wake of a lagging economic recovery and reduced state revenues. The fast-approaching February legislative session, scheduled for only 35 days, means OHCA lobbyists will need help from all members to advocate against proposed 16-19% cuts to Medicaid long term care reimbursement rates.

Medicare to Cut $3.87 Billion of Payments to Skilled Nursing Facilities in 2012

Medicare payments to skilled nursing facilities will be 11.1% lower starting Oct. 1 according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
