Apples for National Nutritional Month Avamere Eats Healthy campaign

It’s National Nutrition Month! Here are some of the foods our residents and patients enjoy.

Comfort food

Our residents at Avamere Rehabilitation at Oregon City love comfort food. Some of their favorite comforts include:

  • Chili hot dog
  • BLT
  • French dip sandwich

Our residents at Avamere at Three Fountains in Medford, Oregon also love comfort food, including:

  • Cinnamon rolls
  • Lemon poppy seed muffins
  • Spaghetti
  • House-made chicken noodle soup (which the chef makes every day)

Residents at both communities enjoy country fried steak with mashed potatoes (as do residents at Avamere Transitional Care and Rehabilitation – Malley).

While some of these food options might not fall under the nutritious category, it certainly brings back the taste of home.

Butternut squash soup

Durinda Haukap, Corporate Director of Nutrition & Culinary Service, visited Avamere Health Services of Rogue Valley residents while they were enjoying butternut squash soup. Haukap reported it was tasty and well-received by the residents.

BBQ food

Our residents at Avamere Rehabilitation of Clackamas enjoy the summer BBQs! The staff hold summer BBQs twice a month.

“The residents state they don’t care what we serve as long as it is BBQ,” said Betty Clemmer, Dietary Services Manager.

Staff and residents come together for good food and good company. It’s great for relationship-building time, Betty said.

 

Roast beef

Many residents at Avamere at Bellingham Health Care and Rehabilitation Services request pot roast and hot roast beef sandwiches. Of course, they add a healthy side of vegetables to compliment the delicious roast. Fresh fruit with cottage cheese is another nutritious resident favorite.

Residents at Avamere Crestview of Portland also enjoy roast beef (and sweet and sour entrees).

Roast beef is also a favorite at Avamere Rehabilitation of Cascade Park! The residents also enjoy lasagna with garlic bread, chicken and mushroom with wine sauce, BBQ rib sandwiches, and an ultimate crowd favorite, grilled cheese with tomato basil soup.
