Residents of Avamere at Bethany, an independent living, assisted living, and memory care community, are enjoying life enhanced in new ways during COVID-19. With lives shaken amongst the spreading virus, Avamere at Bethany employees continue to enthusiastically provide avenues for residents to express their creativity, socialize, and enjoy the day-to-day.

Avamere fun

Recently Avamere residents enjoyed waving to passing cars during their first responders drive-thru breakfast on September 29, 2020. This fun social distance event provided seniors the opportunity to connect with and thank their local first responders while enjoying the outdoors.

Other recent events include patio concerts, a food and clothing drive, and more. No matter a resident’s interests, there’s something for them at Avamere at Bethany.

Thoughtfully planned activities

The many engaging activities are possible because of Livia Thompson, Life Enrichment Director with Avamere at Bethany, celebrating 15 years with the company. Livia expresses a true love for senior care and senior living.

“We treat every resident like they are one of ours – this is their home,” Livia shared.

Now during COVID-19, Avamere at Bethany has implemented safety measures to promote resident health and safety, including limiting participants in social distance activities, wearing face masks, and more.

“It has made me feel like the title of what we do – life enrichment – has become even more significant,” Livia shared. “With our pre-COVID-19 routine having changed so much, it really was up to us and our co-workers to enrich the lives of our residents.”

Livia looks forward to using the internet as a tool to provide new, fun activities for residents while visitors are restricted. She plans to seek out educational videos and more for her residents.

More than activities

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Livia has found her role expand to not just activities, but as hair stylist too. She trimmed beards and cut some of the men’s hair as only essential workers and those with special permission are allowed into the building.

It’s these small acts of kindness that help residents feel truly at home at Avamere at Bethany.

15 loyal years at Avamere

Livia has shared her joyful personality and love with Avamere at Bethany residents and employees for 15 years and counting. Avamere leaders are sincerely thankful to Livia for her service and genuine desire to enhance lives.

“Livia is more than a Life Enrichment Director for these residents,” said Alex McVay, Executive Director with Avamere at Bethany. “She treats them as they are her own family, getting to know them personally and sharing her joy with residents and fellow team members.”
