Therapy Dogs Visit Avamere at Fiesta Park

August 19, 2020

Creative visits during COVID-19

Employees at Avamere Rehab at Fiesta Park, a skilled nursing community in Albuquerque, New Mexico are finding creative ways to brighten their patients’ days during COVID-19. While visitors are not currently allowed, the team invited dogs from High Desert Therapy Dogs to the skilled nursing community.

Partnership with High Desert Therapy Dogs

Avamere Rehab at Fiesta Park has partnered with High Desert Therapy Dogs to facilitate visits to their community. Although dogs and their human partners aren’t allowed in the building, they do what’s called a “walkabout” around the exterior. The dogs stop at windows and greet patients.

At a challenging time, these dogs are able to alleviate some of the loneliness during the pandemic and bring a smile to patient faces.
