"If there was a rating higher than 5 stars, I would gladly check that option! I would like to thank everyone at The Pearl at Kruse Way. I was a resident there for only 2 weeks last month (Nov. 2017), but it was a truly great 2-week experience! I was transferred to The Pearl via ambulance after a week-long stay at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. I was very nervous at first, having had a previous horrible stay at another facility about 10 years earlier. I was so pleasantly surprised at the entire facility; everything from the reception desk in the lobby right down to the less-visible services that are housed in the basement. I am only 62 but have been disabled for 18 years. I was absolutely delighted, from the moment I arrived, with each and every single staff member I came in contact with. I'd like to specifically mention Tony, who was in charge of my very long medication list, was so tuned into my specific needs and how to make things smoother. I quickly noticed that in addition to his medication duties, Tony was wearing many different hats, sometimes all at once. He was truly delightful to interact with! Jill was in charge of nutrition and meals, met with me personally in my room to make sure she was providing what I specifically needed. I have been a nurse for over four decades and I can say that the CNAs are very well trained, incredibly compassionate, and provide patient-centered care.

My therapy team were seasoned, experienced professionals who challenged me in spite of some of the barriers my disease process presented during my stay. Their experience in acute rehab, acute hospital setting, and SNF and home health was invaluable to designing a program to meet my needs.

The food was very good and the staff were available to discuss food preferences and substitutions when my disease process required changes. The kitchen was very accommodating.

Finally, I would like to share the ultimate patient-centered Pearl story illustrating just how The Pearl embraces the philosophy of "doing what it takes" to meet patient needs. I was waiting for Metro West to pick me up for my first medical oncology appointment. Ten minutes after the scheduled pickup, Metro West called to say they did not know if they would be able to pick me up. Without missing a beat, Jessica Slagal in social services called the Pearl administrator. He immediately got the Pearl activities van with wheelchair lift and off we went to the OHSU waterfront in time for the most important appointment for me: my oncology treatment plan.
