Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham has a robust rehabilitation department, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology services. We take pride in being the largest inpatient rehab center in Whatcom County. Our therapists focus on individual goals for each patient in order to work toward meeting their potential as quickly as possible. We encourage independence in a supportive environment.
Our private therapy rooms and social gym offer outpatients as well as inpatients the environment they need to work toward their therapy goals. Many people who start out as inpatients come back as outpatients during their final transition back to their own homes.
Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham provides in-patient and outpatient services in an in-house therapy gymnasium. Our Rehabilitation team includes specialists who can focus on individual programs to meet a wide array of patient therapy needs. Aside from standard exercise and therapeutic equipment such as weights, therabands, physioballs and massage/exercise tables, St. Francis Rehab has its own private raised therapeutic garden and outdoor access for additional functionality. We also have three separate, private therapy rooms for specialized therapy services.

Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham is dedicated to supporting the senior healthcare needs of the surrounding community. Families providing care for loved ones with mental health issues, such as dementia or Alzheimer’s, have continuously chosen us to care for loved ones on a short term basis. Our Senior Respite Care services are specially tailored to give families a well-deserved break from providing the compassionate daily care their loved one requires.
Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham is proud to provide short-term respite stays at a nightly fee. This is ideal for family caregivers who may need a few days or weeks off. We will work closely with your loved one’s primary care physician to help continue the care they deserve.
Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham boasts a community integrated Therapeutic Recreation department with full-time, nationally Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS). The Recreation Therapy Department provides a daily assortment of programs designed to meet the social, spiritual, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative needs of each patient in accordance with their wishes and capabilities.
Rather than one designated area competing for activities, Recreation Therapy programs and activities take place throughout our building in a collection of areas depending on the type of activities or needs of the group. Using a combination of the large dining room space as well as our living rooms, Recreation Therapy programs are structured to support the individual social, spiritual, physical and emotional needs of our patients.
In addition to daily therapeutic activities, Avamere St. Francis of Bellingham provides weekly outings, special events and collaborative opportunities to meet with community related recreation services such as Western Washington University Allied Health students as well as Speech and Audiology Clinicians.
